In honor of "the third of June, another sleepy, dusty delta day" from The Ode To Billie Joe by Bobby Gentry, we go to the Memphis Press-Scimitar news files for a story when Jimmy O was the Special Events Supervisor for the Memphis Recreation Department of the Memphis Park Commission.

Coordinating citywide special events such as the Bicycle Derby, Children's Pet Parade, Safety Song & Speech Contest, K9 Frisbee Catch & Fetch Contest, and Memphis FUNFEST was not enough. I thought that it would be a good idea to "unionize" local Mascots, or at least get a good contact list so that they could come to the events that I was coordinating! Many thanks to Jean McConnell of the Sue Hick Hobby Center and Lenora Sigman of the MRD's Crafts Program for designing and making the outfit for Parky - the Fun Breathing Dragon! By the way, "backup dragon" was George Brogdon.
